The best air purifiers for your home, objectively.
At Lightwork we've evaluated lots of air purifiers and talked to lots of clients. This is our attempt to distill what we've found and recommend the right purifiers for your home, based on hard data. Our guidelines, each of which can be adjusted:
- Throughput matters. Past a certain quality of filter, what matters more than anything else is how much air it moves.
- Quiet matters. Results are limited by default to purifiers that deliver enough clean air at less than 41 decibels* (note: this typically means larger units).
- Ease matters. Results are limited by default to those with 12 month or longer filter replacement lifespans.
- Beauty matters. Results are limited by default to premium-looking models (the only subjective data in the algorithm!).

* Quiet CADR is estimated by identifying each purifier's highest fan speed at or below 41 dBA, then deriving airflow at that speed using fan affinity laws. Products whose lowest speed exceeds 41 dBA are excluded entirely. For multi-unit combinations, each unit must operate below a lower threshold (38 dBA for pairs, 36 dBA for triples) so that the combined noise stays under 41 dBA. Full methodology
